On behalf of all the people of St. Hubert, I wish a very Happy Birthday to Trudy Casper, mother of Carol Blotteaux, as she celebrated her 100
th birthday on Tuesday, August 23
rd.
In her many years, she has been known as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. In all these phases of life, she has been a woman of strong faith, which has seen her through sickness, death, loneliness and all the stresses which are a part of everyday life. This same strong faith has been apparent in the good and happy times, as well, as Trudy has remembered to express to God often her gratitude for all the wonderful people and events which have enriched her life in so many ways. She was blessed with wonderful parents, 2 sisters, a devoted husband, three children, and numerous “grands” - grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren! Along with her family, her many friends completed the picture of a life filled with love, given and received.
Having lived through a good portion of history (100 years encompasses many monumental changes in society and in the world), Trudy has experienced, in wonder and awe, moments that many of us have only heard or read about. She saw the invention of cars, jet airliners, washing machines, microwaves, motion pictures, air conditioning, voice in radio, television, and computers. She lived during the eruption of wars – World War I, World War ll, Korean War, War in
Viet Nam, the Gulf War, the War on Terror (Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan) – events that can change the world – war and peace. She also saw the wonders of change – things like the Berlin Wall erected, and many years later, torn down; space travel and man walking on the moon; women’s suffrage; advancements in the world of medicine and in the world of technology. She lived during the terms of Presidents Wilson, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush (George H.W.), Clinton, Bush (George W.), and Obama. And, as part of her Catholic heritage, she has experienced the leadership of Popes Benedict XV, Pius XI, Pius XII, St. John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, St. John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis.
Trudy received a special blessing last weekend at the 7:30 Mass, and we wish her continued blessings in all the days still to come.
Let’s remind ourselves often of the amazing gift of life and remember to be grateful for the gift of each day God has given to us.
