A Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Families, September 2017 Update
Family #28 Our mom has made some progress with securing death benefits for her two children, whose father passed away last year. She is still on the Section 8 Housing waiting list for Gary, IN and has been told she is at the top of list. She is trying to secure arrangements because her lease is over this month.
Things are better with her oldest daughter. She is in the home helping and showing that she wants to be a mother to her baby. She is also attending school regularly and wants to go to a Chicago city college next year. Her other children are also stable at this time.
Goals
● Save at least 3 to 6 months’ worth of rent.
● Staying compliant with New Hope program for a smooth transition.
● Follow up with Gary, IN Section 8 Housing on a weekly basis.
● Continue to save for move to buy new furniture and pay for movers.
Family #29 Our mom is doing quite well and is thinking about moving back to Lake County to be close to her parents for support for her child. Things are going very well with his father. He has consistently visited over the last 2 months, has been helping financially, and supporting her when she is working. They have agreed on how to move forward co-parenting together. She is very happy with how things are going. The father also took their son on vacation to California. Mom is currently looking for an apartment in her desired location and continues to grow her savings account.
Goals:
● Continue to keep mental health stabilized.
● Save as much as possible before October 31, 2017.
● Secure affordable housing in Lake County near parents.
Both families are very grateful for all the help from the Peace and Justice Cluster parishes and parishioners.
