Catholic Charities New Hope Apartments: A Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Families, September Update
Family #26 Recap: Mother with two daughters ages 14 & 7.
We have said good bye to this family. They are moving on to permanent, affordable housing in Elgin and is excited about moving into her own place. She accomplished many goals while in the program. She was able to find another part time job, pay down some credit card debt, and save up enough for her security deposit and first month’s rent at her new place. She was very grateful for the time to get her life back in order and to stabilize her children. Next year, her children will transfer to an Elgin school district. Our mom had many challenges along the way, but she was determined to be a success and her hard work has paid off.
Next month we will introduce a new family. This family sends its sincere gratitude to all the parishioners for your support! It is exciting to help a family reach their goals.
Family #27 Recap: Single mom with a son.
This family will exit the program the end of October. Our mom is doing well and both she and her son accomplished much while in the New Hope Program. She continues to look for affordable housing closer to her job, but she wants to keep her son’s school and therapy (Kenneth Young) in mind. He is currently stable and consistently going to therapy and taking his medication. It has had a positive impact on his behavior at home and school. It might be a detriment to her son’s progress to move away from the routine of his school and Kenneth Young, so she must keep his best interests in mind as she seeks other housing options.
This family is very grateful to be a part of the Peace and Justice extended family.
