June is our last month of the fiscal year. We are having another second collection to balance the budget at the end of the month. Please use this opportunity to make up any collections you missed throughout the year due to travel or sickness. You may also send a donation to the Ministry Center and mark it “Balance the Budget.” Thank you.
As you can see on the bulletin cover we are saying farewell to 3 illustrious staff persons.
Yvonne Cassa has been Liturgy Coordinator here for 20 years. She is an accomplished author, speaker, and has given liturgical workshops in many dioceses. Most importantly, she worked for us at St. Hubert. Check out her letter on page 5.
Many people do not realize all the details involved with liturgy. In many parishes, you will see the Pastor very preoccupied before Mass to make sure everything is in order. We were very fortunate here because of Yvonne’s planning and delegation to Mass coordinators. Priest celebrants here have been able to take the time before Mass to pray and prepare spiritually for the celebration. This benefits all of us because the priest is more focused and prayerful.
Here are some examples of her involvement: RCIA, Liturgy Board, Liturgy Planning, Mass Coordinators, and all the liturgical ministries from ushers to servers. Each of these areas involves multiple emails, phone messages, pastoral care and many more tasks addressing things that occur throughout the year. I am especially grateful to Yvonne for her help with our church renovation. Our church would not look as good as it does without her input. Her liturgical expertise was and is invaluable. Thank you for sharing your skills, expertise and faith with us.
Vito DeFrisco, in my opinion, had the hardest job at St. Hubert. His hard work and determination with our faculty and staff brought our school to a Blue Ribbon status in 2014. During his 11 years here he had to deal with students, parents, teachers/staff, Pastor, the Archdiocese and State of Illinois regarding curriculum and school affairs. Most days were not his own, and his schedule frequently got disrupted because of some “crucial” issue at school. His professionalism was unsurpassed as he navigated through many turbulent waters, always bringing calm to the situation, and moving our school forward to the next level. We were very fortunate to have him as a principal and staff person. Thank you.
Marcia Larson served as Assistant Principal for the last 7 years. She worked so well with Vito that it was sometimes described as a Ying and Yang duo. Her talents complimented the principal. Her organizational skills helped communicate with parents and staff. She constantly worked with faculty on curriculum and was a big supporter of the importance of classroom time. Marcia has had more than 30 years of experience in education in both Catholic and public schools, where she shared her wisdom and knowledge. Her expertise in the area of education is a result of 2 Master’s degrees and her various roles in the field of education, especially all she learned at St. Theresa Parish and enhanced and shared here at St. Hubert.
On a personal note, I will truly miss these 3 dedicated staff persons. I have come to know them professionally and socially, and forever will be grateful for their commitment to St. Hubert Parish. They certainly made my pastoring much easier and fruitful. They taught me a lot about their area of expertise, and witnessed to our Catholic faith. Farewell, good and faithful servants. I know that God will continue to be with you as you witness to others on your journey of faith.
